Frequently Asked Questions

GETTING STARTED

You should have received an introductory email with the subject line “Get Credentialed to Vote in Your UCRP 2021 Special Election” from “Voatz Team | Utah County Republican Party” (sender email address: info.ucrp@voatz.com). It was sent to the email address your party has on file.

The email contains the following information:

  • Instructions for downloading the Voatz app
  • Your unique Voatz Voter ID
  • Instructions on how to get credentialed to vote

Please download the app and complete the credentialing process at your earliest convenience. This will ensure that you are ready to receive your ballot when the voting window opens.

If you haven’t received the email yet, please check your spam, junk, and/or trash folders (and if you have Gmail, a folder called “Updates”), to make sure it didn’t end up there. If you’re still unable to find it, contact the Voatz Help Desk for assistance. Ask them to confirm that you’re on the eligible voter list and that they have the correct email address.

Search for “Voatz” in your phone’s app store, or:

  • Download the iOS app here
  • Download the Android app here

The Voatz app is supported on:

  • Android smartphones running Android 8.0+
  • iPhones running iOS 12.4+

If your phone is using an earlier operating system, please upgrade your phone to the latest version, or complete the Vote by Voice Call form to submit your vote(s) over the phone.

Please note, the Voatz app is not supported on Android tablets; however, it is supported on an iPad 3 or newer, but it must have a cellular connection capable of receiving SMS messages.

CREATING AN ACCOUNT

Our voter guide provides step-by-step instructions to help you download the Voatz app and create an account. Help is also available in the app by tapping the Help button in the top right corner of most screens.

If you previously created an account in the Voatz app, you must use the same email address you used at that time. If this email address is no longer available to you, contact the Voatz help desk for assistance. Be sure to include your full name and both your old and new email addresses.

An SMS (text) notification will temporarily display at the top of your screen, but if you miss it, you can still retrieve it:

  • For Android phones: You’ll need to keep Voatz running in the background while retrieving your 6-digit code. To do this, use the bottom navigation buttons on your phone to switch between Voatz and your text messaging app.
  • For iPhones: Switch to your Messages app and locate the 6-digit code, then return to the Voatz app to enter it.

Please tap the request new code button to receive a new SMS registration code. It may take a few minutes to receive it, and when you do, check to make sure you enter all 6 digits correctly. Then you’ll be able to tap the Next button to continue creating an account.

  • Make sure you’ve entered the correct number of digits
  • Make sure your PIN does not contain three sequential numbers (e.g. 123) or three repeating numbers (e.g. 111)
  • PINs for Android devices require 12 digits
  • PINs for iOS devices require 8 digits

CREDENTIALING

First, double check your Voter ID to make sure you entered it correctly. It might be helpful to write it down or view it on a different device. Please also be careful to distinguish between the number “0” and the letter “O”.

If you’re sure your Voter ID is correct, there might be a mismatch with the information that appears on your party’s voter registration list. Contact the Voatz Help Desk for assistance.

After entering your Voter ID, you should be verified immediately. If you see a “pending” status, you may have entered your Voter ID incorrectly. Contact the Voatz Help Desk for assistance. Be sure to include your full name, mobile number and the email address you used to create an account with Voatz.

No, we recommend you update the app to the latest version before you begin, but the system should retain your verification and you should see your party listed with a checkmark if you tap Verifications.

The system will retain your previous verification if you use the same email address and phone number as you used the last time you signed up. You will receive 6-digit registration codes to both your email and phone when you sign up again, but following that, you will be verified as before.

VOTING

When your ballot is available, you will see a red circle next to Elections on the home screen. Tap on Elections to view your ballot and vote. Please check the Convention schedule for the timing of the ballot you can access and vote on June 5.

If you don’t see a red circle next to Elections, tap the “refresh” button (a circular arrow icon) located to the right of your name on the home screen. A red circle should appear, and you can tap on Elections to view your ballot and vote.

If you still don’t see a red circle next to Elections, contact the Voatz Help Desk for assistance.

If your ballot contains a ranked-choice contest, you will have the option to rank your selections. Use the up/down arrows to rank your desired selections above the line on the screen. If you need help during the ranked-choice voting process tap Help in the upper righthand corner on the screen.

For more information on how ranked-choice voting works in general, this video can help explain the process. Per Utah County Republican Party rules, a 50%+1 threshold is used to calculate a winner after the instant runoff rounds.

Your ballot receipt is sent to the email address you entered when you created an account. The email subject line is “Your Official Ballot Receipt” (sender email address: info@voatz.com). If you haven’t received the email, please check your spam, junk, and/or trash folder to make sure it didn’t end up there.

If you’re not sure what email address you used to create an account, go to the Voatz app home screen and tap Verifications, then tap Device. Press and hold the box to view the email address associated with your account.

From the Voatz home screen, tap on Options, then tap on Ballot Receipt Password. Press and hold the box to view your password. It might be helpful to write it down so you can easily enter it when you return to your email to view your receipt.

If you voted using Vote by Voice Call, the support agent should have provided your 6-digit password after voting.

ACCESSIBILITY

Voatz accessibility features enable voters with visual, auditory and/or dexterity impairment to vote securely and independently from their smartphones. VoiceOver (iOS) and TalkBack (Android) screenreaders and Voice Control (iOS) are two of the many assistive capabilities available in the app.

Voatz is optimized to work with your smartphone’s assistive capabilities such as VoiceOver, TalkBack and Speech-to-Text.
